The Courtroom, the Shower Epiphany, and the Perfect Timing of Jeremiah 29:13

The Courtroom, the Shower Epiphany, and the Perfect Timing of Jeremiah 29:13

Today is the day we go to court. The man who murdered my son is being sentenced. This isn't the trial for Cash's murder—that comes in March. Today, he is facing justice for the four officers he assaulted while in jail, carrying a potential five years for each assault. If I am being truly, brutally honest, all I have been able to think about lately is how quickly I could get to him in the courtroom and rip his throat out. That is my flesh talking. That is the raging heart of a grieving father. I know God has called me to forgive and to pray for his salvation, but for a long time, those were just half-hearted, through-gritted-teeth prayers.

But Sunday morning in the shower, something profound happened. God gave me a glimpse of His glory. He allowed me to genuinely feel what it would be like if this man actually repented from his sins and was saved. What a breathtaking testimony it would be—not only to Cash's legacy, but to the unstoppable redemptive power of God. The man who murdered my son, accepting Christ. I actually believe it is possible now. Because I have released that bitterness, there is nothing I can do but trust the Lord with the outcome of today. Whether he gets the maximum sentence or gets off completely, spending hours speculating is a waste of my time and peace. It is entirely in God's hands.

God's timing is the ultimate proof of His sovereignty. I started a Bible reading plan exactly 173 days ago. Out of 359 total days, my reading for today—Judgment Day for my son's murderer—lands squarely on Jeremiah 29. It just so happens that Jeremiah 29:13 is Cash's life verse. It is the verse printed on our orange bands and on everything we do for his foundation. If that isn't a wink from heaven and a direct sign from Cash, I don't know what is.

    Today's SOAP

    S - Scripture

Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV): "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Matthew 5:44 (NIV): "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

    O - Observation

The ruler of the universe does not operate by coincidence. That a 359-day reading plan would align Day 173—the reading of Jeremiah 29—perfectly with this specific court date is a divine orchestration. God is speaking directly through Cash's life verse. But the condition of the verse is critical: we only find Him when we seek Him with all our heart. You cannot seek God with all your heart if half of it is consumed by a desire for vengeance. When you finally release the vengeance, God replaces it with a supernatural capacity to pray for the salvation of your greatest enemy.

    A - Application

Today, I am walking into the courtroom stripped of expectations. I am letting go of my need to control the scales of justice. Instead, I am going to lean entirely into the promise of Cash's verse. I am going to seek the Lord with all my heart amidst the circus of the legal system. I will continue to pray the hardest, most impossible prayer a father can pray: that the man sitting at the defense table experiences true repentance, encounters the grace of Jesus Christ, and is saved.

    P - Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am in absolute awe of Your perfect timing. Thank You for the undeniable wink from heaven today through Cash's verse. Lord, I surrender my fleshly anger to You. I lay my desire for revenge at Your feet. I trust You entirely with the judge, the sentence, and the future. I ask that You do a miraculous work in the heart of the man who took my son's life. Break him, save him, and use it all for Your glory. In Jesus' name, Amen.

    Today's Challenge:

We all have someone who has wronged us, betrayed us, or caused us deep pain. Today, stop praying for their downfall or their punishment. Get on your knees and pray a genuine, specific prayer for their complete spiritual redemption and salvation.
